For three years, Emi and Bonnie had lived separate lives. Their marriage had ended after too many misunderstandings, endless arguments, and feelings they didn’t know how to express. They thought walking away would make things easier. It didn’t. The only person who still brought them together was their daughter, Any. One Saturday morning, Emi arrived at Bonnie’s house to pick her up. The door opened. Any stood there with a backpack, a suitcase, and a huge smile. Emi stared at her. “Why do you have a suitcase?” “I’m coming home with you.” “You already have a home.” Any shook her head. “I mean permanently.” Bonnie walked into the hallway. “Any, stop teasing your mother.” “I’m serious. I have a plan.” Emi raised an eyebrow. “What plan?” Any pointed at both of them. “You two need to get back together.” Silence. Bonnie sighed. “Any…” “What? You still care about each other.” Emi glanced at Bonnie. Bonnie immediately looked away. “That doesn’t mean we should be together.” Any crossed her arms. “Then explain why Mom still knows exactly how you take your coffee.” Bonnie froze. Emi looked at her. “You remember?” “I remember everything.” That answer made the room strangely quiet. Any smiled. “Exactly.” Later that evening, Any convinced them to attend her school’s family dinner. Emi arrived first. Bonnie was already waiting at their table. They exchanged an awkward smile. “You knew she was doing this,” Emi said. Bonnie shook her head. “No. But apparently our daughter has become a professional matchmaker.” Any proudly pulled out the chair between them. “Sit.” They obeyed. Throughout dinner, Any kept watching them like a detective. When Emi passed Bonnie her favorite dessert without asking, Any gasped. “You still remember!” Emi shrugged. “Of course I do.” Bonnie smiled quietly. Afterward, heavy rain started pouring outside. Emi offered them a ride home. The trip was quiet. Any eventually fell asleep in the back seat, leaving Emi and Bonnie alone with their thoughts. After several minutes, Emi finally spoke. “I miss talking to you.” Bonnie looked at her. “I miss it too.” “I thought I would be happier after the divorce.” “Were you?” Emi shook her head. “No.” Bonnie lowered her gaze. “Me neither.” A small smile appeared between them. “I think we were so busy trying to prove who was right,” Emi said, “that we forgot we were supposed to be on the same side.” Bonnie reached for her hand. “Maybe we can try again.” Emi looked down at their joined hands. “Are you sure?” “I wouldn’t say it if I wasn’t.” From the back seat, Any suddenly spoke “So does this mean I won?” They both turned around. “You were awake?” Any grinned. “I’ve been awake for ten minutes.” Bonnie laughed. “You planned the whole thing!” “Obviously.” Emi shook her head. “You’re unbelievable.” Any smiled proudly. “But effective.” Bonnie looked at Emi. Emi smiled back. “Second chance?” Bonnie squeezed her hand “Second chance.” Any immediately raised both arms. “YES! My parents are back together!” “Keep your voice down!” Bonnie laughed. “Sorry,” Any whispered dramatically. “I’m just very happy.” For the first time in years, they drove home as a family. Their story had once ended with divorce papers. This time, they decided to write a new chapter together. #fyp #AU #emibonnie #emithasorn #bonniepattraphus
