If I remember right, half frozen was best. Soft enough to get your fork in, cold enough to enjoy. But take me with a grain of salt as it was 2017 the last time I had one.

they are great either way. frozen they hold better and is more like a ice cream cake where as warm it generally falls apart and is more like a soft short cake.
