respectfully, i think you are wrong. The number of openings I see repeatedly for the same position for the last 12 months continuosly reposted every month that I apply to and have all the qualifications and years of experience for but get declined or ghosted repeatedly without an interview tells me the jobs are NOT real and are "Ghost Jobs"

My company currently has 14 fake jobs posted on career websites. I know this because the HR director talked about it at a suite meeting as a way to more effectively gather a pool of resumes for future job openings.

You say tgis but I've been searching for 7 months and I have real skills, a professional resume and I have spent the time to perfect my interview skills. 98 percent of the jobs I apply for i never hear from, the other 2 percent I interview and never hear from agian or get a generic email saying I wasn't selected just to see the same job posted a few weeks later.

Ive always felt the "ghost jobs" myths came from the fact that a good portion of jobs are agencies seeking to place contractors. If I have one opening, and send it out to 20 agencies, then those agencies each send it to their 10-15 suppliers (I think you see where im going)....

if I had to make a guess I would say that it's probably more that job listings are posted on multiple platforms and when a position is filed some of the ads never get taken down. Then you have other companies like "Jobgether" that just copy job listings and cross post them under their own name. when the real company fills a role , the cross post stays up. Places like Jobgether use these ads to harvest resumes for their own recruiting and marketing purposes. There are definitely jobs posted out there that aren't real, but I think you're probably right it's less of companies intentionally posting bogus job openings and more the stale and stolen job listings.

I don't think any of us need those studies to tell us our lived experience and you're not all at considering the reason we don't have creditable stats for this is because companies REALLY don't want to hand that information over to anyone, especially not people who want to make it public

I have put in over 1,000 applications in the past year and change. I do not use a generic application, nor do I assume the job posting is complete, I research the company and deep dive the role before building my application and resume. Matter of fact, I have ~125 applications that over a year old and have not received any feedback of the results. If ghost jobs = incomplete hiring process, I would believe that - just saying they are fake, is questionable.
