@cjwhitt77: #autismmom #autismawareness #autism #autismacceptance Being an autismmom or autismdad is the title of a parent raising an autistic child, just like the title special needs parent. Autistic Elopment is one of greatest threats to an autistic child, because autistic elopment claims so many lives.

I say the same thing!! I have a TON of safety measures in my house to avoid them eloping… I see kids everyday on here dying from eloping, parents not taking the safety precautions to keep their children safe… but will spend thousands on squishys.. I wish parents would do what we do and protect their kids at any cost!!

people don't understand nuance and intent anymore and it pisses me off increasingly every day. A parent locking the fridge to keep a hungry child from eating is abuse. A parent locking the fridge to keep a child (autistic or not) from DESTROYING FOOD is not.

I'm not the parent of an autistic child, but I see you and I 100000% support you. I was told by CPS one time 'i cannot tell you it's okay to not have a direct line of sight to your three year old' because I USED THE BATHROOM! you do WHATEVER you need to do because YOU know what is safest for YOUR family. to anyone who judges you!

Three years in and Im over the judgement. Last year we moved across the country to be next to Disney World. Now they can judge us on FaceTime while we snack on beignets in the most magical place on earth 🤷‍♀️

bro do what you got to. I was a firefighter for 10 years. went on multiple missing children and the thing about it is they walk in a straight line multiple times. I have found a kid too close to a roadway or water source or something like that. if you can do any of that to protect your kid, by all means do it. people will not understand what you have to do to protect your kid because they don't have to go through it

I’m not calling it abuse at all. I can completely understand the need to keep an autistic child in the house. My only concern as someone who’s little brother (not autistic, just very inquisitive) lit the house on fire when we were kids (30ish years ago) is fire safety. I know I can’t afford for my wife or myself to be home with one of our children 72 21 as you say.

My mom and uncle weren’t autistic growing up but after my uncle found his way outside at 1 am in the middle of the snow and the neighbor brought him to the front door literally saving his life my mother had to bang on the wall because my grandmother locked them in at night. It used to drive my mother crazy until my uncle got older but it was better she bang on the wall to get my grandmother to let her use the bathroom than for my curious uncle to die. Common sense sure isn’t common with a lot of people.
