@christopherthelawyer: If your employer is overwhelming you, ignoring your medical condition, or dismissing your mental health concerns, get a doctor's note. As an employment lawyer, I see discrimination every day. Workplace accommodation is a legal right, not a courtesy your employer can choose to ignore. A doctor's note forces your employer to accommodate you. They have to investigate your needs and modify your role so you can do your job properly. They do not get to decide whether to take it seriously. It also makes it much harder for them to fire you. If they let you go after receiving a doctor's note, that could be discrimination under human rights legislation. General damages are tax free money, typically between five and fifteen thousand dollars, plus lost wages from the date you were let go until you find another job or the date of a hearing.
