@sliceoflifemd: In 2011 Scotland eliminated prescription charges entirely. Every NHS prescription is now free regardless of what the medication is or what you earn. England still charges around £9.90 per item. Same country. Different political decisions. Very different experience at the pharmacy counter. Here is what the evidence actually shows happened after. Every week in my free newsletter I break down one country's healthcare system and one American policy issue. https://sliceoflifemd.substack.com/subscribe #GlobalHealth #HealthcarePolicy #PrescriptionCosts #PublicHealth #SliceOfLifeMD
What a wonderful idea. Glad Scotland was able to do this for their citizens.

Scotland only has 5 million people. It cost in Scotland 1,6 billion pounds. If you multiply that to match the population of the United States it would cost America 110,000,000,000 pounds. America already spends 100 billion on snap alone without even starting to consider any other social safety nets

Is there a reason or mechanism for why the rate of prescription growth slowed after 2011 in Scotland?

When ever people are worried about rich people saving some money it's laughable. You want rich people to contribute, add taxes to capital gains.
