The best skyline in all of Italy 👇 Italy has a little town in Tuscany with 14 medieval skyscrapers still standing — and most people have never heard of it. This spring we spent a few weeks exploring Tuscany and Umbria, soaking up the culture, food, and scenery while working our way through as many hilltop villages as we could find. San Gimignano sits on a hilltop about an hour south of Florence, and the skyline alone is worth the detour. At one point this tiny town had 72 towers, each one built by a wealthy family trying to out-do their neighbors. The taller your tower, the more powerful you were. Sound familiar? Only 14 towers are still standing today, but walking through those cobblestone streets with that skyline above you feels like nothing else in Italy.
