The problem is the pricing. Low income families of all backgrounds can’t afford it but we all know that in this country, socioeconomic inequality and racism has made it that Black kids are disproportionately stuck in low income situations. My son plays travel ball. Full year is $4,300. Broken down by season is still ridiculous prices.

First off, the bump up is coming from children of middle class Black families. Lots of cats like Michael Harris II are from suburban or rural areas, not inner city Oakland or Brooklyn. Secondly, what would challenge MLB scouting patterns and push the numbers up is a European soccer-style or Beltran's-school-in-PR-style academy where thr best Black prospects as high school kids get either stipend-paid or HS scholarship to play during the morning, then take your classes in the afternoon. That would change this overnight. Elite Black athletes would consider baseball over scholarship-ready hoops and football with this environment.

We just need to find ways to make this more affordable. Baseball ⚾️is one of the most expensive sports to play. My son is in a fall league for 13 u the dues are $600. New gear annually is running $300-500. Travel team dues are over $1000. This is not doable for many urban kids.

We also need more Black umpires. There’s a free youth umpire camp coming up at Compton MLB Youth Academy in December. It’s put on by an MLB umpire from Compton. Umpires make at least $30-50 an hour their first game. Is there an email address I can send info to?

From my observation, MLB has a troubling history when it comes to recognizing the abilities of Black players in the game. It seems the higher-ups have pushing the line back once again, because they believe white players will have a better chance at competing and maintaining a certain image compared to Latin players.
