I don’t have a set budget, but I do monitor my spending very closely. I have a log book where I track spend on all utilities, phone, subscriptions etc) Over the years I have evolved into thinking of spending as “wants versus needs”. Needs are always the priority. I think that way for everything i need to spend money on, groceries, clothing, home related expenses, car expenses, travel, my health…all of it. I am also HUGE on not wasting anything (case in point, I just finished cleaning out an old spice jar so that I can use it again for buying that same spice in bulk)

I think I have had a budget since I was a child. I am going to tell my age but you could take coke bottles to store for $. I think maybe 3cents. Candy was a penny. We would go to the ball park after a big tourney and gather all the bottles. I knew exactly how many pieces of candy I would be bring home. 🤣 We have been married 40 years. We almost always had a budget. We started making very good $$ I got too sure of myself and thought I no longer needed a budget. Then the 2008 economy crash happened. I vowed then to never let things get that bad.
