@formlabs: Battleship, but the ships EXPLODE 💥 This is Capsized, a hackathon project by Formlabs mechanical engineering intern Nathan. The game is built from custom PCBs, a polycarbonate shield, a few capacitors, and a lot of 3D printed parts. Nathan and his team used the weekend to print, test, assemble, and blow up capacitors to create this awesome game. The Form 4 SLA 3D Printer was essential to making this project come to life ⚫️ Internal enclosure - printed in Black Resin on the Form 4L ⛵️The boats - printed as a single fleet in Black Resin on the Form 4 🛡️ Knobs and shield handles - printed from Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin #3dprinting

If this was a genuine game I’d buy it. Especially if you either offered more capacitors, OR used insanely easy and cheap to obtain capacitors

That's pretty awesome, but electrolytic caps put off toxic smoke when they blow like that.
I was a test engineer for over 20 years and we had a special vacuum enclosure we used to stress test our high current power supplies for exactly that reason. Of course our caps were beer can size and were much more violent when they failed, so there is that 😁

you should make that into a real mini game but with lights instead of blowing the things up and sell it to people around the world cause I would buy it

it's fun and all but hope it stays as your little fun thing, we have enough electrical waste as it is.

As a person learning electricity this is helpful. Thank you for showing me what happens to Electrolytic capacitors when the polarity is wrong.

So, Electronic Battleship, except it cost more because you'll constantly be replacing blown caps. Yeah, they're probably cheap caps, but it's still wasteful. The same smoke effect could have been achieved using drops of water on small heating coils. Better yet, stick with the caps, but use double sided tape to adhere sugar crystals and potassium permanganate to the caps. With a high enough voltage, when the cap blows, the heat would be enough to melt the sugar to react with the potassium permanganate and you'd get little jets if actual fire.
