@lizbettalksmoney: There’s a part I “filmed” but realized after the fact that it was not saved because of my phone overheated and stopped recording. 🤦‍♀️ That is, HOW do I motivate them to do their regular chores? We are NOT a no-screen family 😅 Both of my daughters have tablets. They don’t get to watch them during the school week, but on the weekends they can - so long as their chores are done. 1 day is laundry, and the other is their room. If they don’t get it done, they can’t use their tablet. Simple as that. If they decide to not do chores all day Saturday, and leave it all for Sunday. I let them. But they also do not have access to screens until both tasks are complete the next day. It’s still a win for me because it keeps them off the tablet an extra day 🙃 Allowance is tied to school, that is their “job.” And while I know that they still HAVE to go to school, it’s much easier to explain that concept because mom and dad also go to work during their school hours and we get paid for it. What are your thoughts on paying for chores (respectfully)? 👀 #kidsandmoney #allowance #allowancesystem #kidsandchores #choresforkids

Do I have kids? No. Will I have kids? Also no. But I absolutely love the way you’re raising yours and wish more parents did. You are teaching them so many valuable life lessons and setting them up for an amazing and successful future! ♥️

I understand this logic, but I don't understand how you explain they get paid week just to exist. Can you explain that? i'm just trying to think of it in the real world. Right? I don't get paid money just because I am alive, it's because I go to work. I love your videos and if you want to share video that you explain this , I will watch it because I haven't found it yet.

We don’t pay for regular chores on a regular basis because it’s part of being a participating human in our household. We also don’t personally give a regular allowance ( although I love your routine) we pay for grades and learning -reading books ect.. we follow a Dave Ramsey mindset and do have them categorize all money they receive into similar buckets the way you do. However , with that being said we do pay them for extra chores above and beyond normal household contribution on occasion when things come up on short notice. For example my 12 year old was just invited to go shopping with a friend and her mom at several thrift stores. She had some money to go from her own spending money. And she asked if there way anything extra she could do that she could quickly earn additional funds to take. And in those cases I typically find something as well as sometimes surprise her with a bit extra from my own spending funds. Yes- she knows mom and dad both have a line items for spending $ too. Same way we teach her to budget. I’m curious do you have exceptions for letting them earn more for something or stick strictly to only what they’ve saved week over week? I realize yours are younger but curious on your thoughts . We only have 1 left at home as ours are 28,23,12 .

What about for bigger things, like mowing the lawn or other yard work? We're planning for kids in a couple years, so I love hearing different perspectives!

I agree. Anything that has to do with the home and maintaining it, both inside and out, it’s a team effort. If my son wants money, he will directly ask “is there something I can do to earn cash?” I will offer him duties outside the norm. My 15 yr old is responsible for: his room & laundry, the bathroom (we only have one), trash & recycling, and for the summer a majority of the dishes.

Yes thank you for this! I think some parents forget they are raising future adults. Teaching them lessons like this is important.

I love your way of thinking. We weren’t paid for chores either as it’s about respecting the place you live and learning life skills

I love this thought process because it is real life. I have incorporated this with our son. We did just start it about 6 weeks ago and he is almost 11 so we are not to the point of him offering to little extra things lol

I wouldn’t pay my kids for chores if I was paying them to go to “work”(school). As an adult you have to go to work and then still keep up on the house chores.

We love your content. I have an 8 year old son and we have always had high expectations. Our children are more capable than we give them credit for. By kindergarten he packs his own lunch, starts his laundry, helps put up dishes. Now that he’s older he puts his laundry up, keeps up with his room. Does the dishes. Cooks, sweeps, trash, you name it he can do it. I told him we’re not just raising our son, daddy and I are raising someone’s future husband and he should be capable of being the man of the house by the time he leaves our home. We introduced “payday” at the beginning of this year. And his job is to go to school, be kind, and make good grades. He doesn’t get extra money for normal chores. Now if he goes and works with dad on a job site we pay him for that. But just like payday money, extra money gets divided up into the three categories; spending, savings, investing. And he has grown so much in this knowledge. We plan to continue to broaden this part of his learning as he gets older and a lot of the financial literacy comes from watching how you treat your daughters 🩷 so thank you

I was raised the same way. I'm a millennial. I didn't have an allowance. but I babysat and cleaned families houses and did side jobs, from the age of 10. it taught me responsibility and to work for the extra money. never wanted for anything.

👏🏻 I agree!! my 7 year old been cleaning and doing her room and around the house help since she was 5 in half only bc she saw me do it she wanted to help now she's 7 I don't even have to ask she just always keeps herself area tidy and and if she sees me putting away dishes she always just comes and helps! this Summer She also learned how to cook meaning sandwiches fixing herself lunch and with me present of course she'll use the air fryer we just learned to do that this summer. she gets super excited. I always tell her thank you and I appreciate all her help 🥰🥰 we all have to remember that they need acknowledgment it's so important 🥰 but to pay them absolutely not, you're going to need to do this when they're older and when we're not around anymore so to be expected to get paid you just can't.
