I was about to disagree with the clockwise/counterclockwise bit, but then I realized that you are a HS teacher 😳

And while we’re at it, they should know their OWN PARENTS FULL NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS.

The first 2 are massive struggles for people with (potentially undiagnosed) dyslexia, but I'll let it slide. The third one is valid my 8 year old knows our address so a teenager definitely should. The last one though I can confirm from experience that you can clean spills with wet wipes (I've been in far too many cafes where my kids spilt their drink and all I gave is wet wipes and determination 😭).

I would argue that these ARE the jobs of teachers and parents combined, but like, kindergarten teachers. if there is a kid thats like, 10 or 12 and doesn't know how to read an analog clock, that is a huge issue.

I don’t know my address or zipcode as a sophomore, I have to find a text of my mom sending it to me once and copy it every time, or my own phone number, or anyone else’s. As a sophomore. 😭

And to add to this: we should not have to teach high schoolers how to write on lined paper! You know the pink line on left? You write on the right side of that pink line. And you write on the blue lines. Don’t start up in 1” above the first blue line. That was a wild explanation I had to say out loud to a few classes.

as a kindergarten teacher, I use the proper names for things. Like turn that paper portrait/landscape. I will explain it after and show them what I mean, but if you don't use the big words, they will never learn them. and that's just one example

Also parents teach your kid their first anf last name, not just a nickname. I taught a girl who thought her government name was Stinky, cuz thats all her parents called her
