After studying marriage and gender dynamics for the past three years, I have questions. Too many wives become unpaid therapists, domestic servants, caregivers, personal assistants and permanently available sexual outlets while their husbands receive stability, support and the freedom to flourish. Women are told to marry for love, but are some men marrying primarily for usefulness? And once a wife has helped build him into the man he wanted to become, does he cherish her or eventually discard her for the woman he believes he can finally afford? I am not against marriage. I am against any marriage that requires a woman to disappear so a man can flourish. If becoming your wife means becoming your exhausted employee, remaining single is not a failure.
