@alexhollings52: The Tomahawk may not be the cheapest of the bunch, but then… that’s not what it aims to be either. #usmilitary #military #miltok #Tech #news
I 100% agree but I don’t understand why we’re using these highly advanced systems against Iran of all nations.

You could liken it to using a JDAM or a standard bomb. Both do the same thing, however one is cheeper because it doesn’t have the fancy electrical kit with it

You’re comparing apples to oranges (baseball bats to scalpels). The real question is how much Raytheon would charge to build a Flamingo.

Nope, not spec sheet syndrome. We’re sick of spending billions on when something that’s 90% as good is 1/10th the price

Imma say this.... Literally NO ONE voted for more weapon production and NO ONE wanted this war. Republicans and Trump will be paying for this come November.

The Flamingo missile will take out the city block to ensure target destruction. The Tomahawk will go through the window of the target to kill it from the inside. Both have uses.

From what I understand, Flamingo's guidance was derived from Ardupilot, which is essentially used to turn a hobby rc aircraft into a fixed wing autonomous drone (Im an rc guy). Tomahawks like you said have multiple guidance modes and can hit a traffic cone. To me, Flamingo is impressive in its simplicity-effectiveness ratio per se, and Tomahawk is impressive in that its a heavy-hitting Swiss army knife that can also do surgery. Great breakdown as always 👍

"instead" is not a wrong framing. until now expensive stuff was used everywhere. now it's going to become more niche, as it should be.
and there is a reason a new startup was necessary to come up with the cheaper stuff - it's more profitable to sell only the expensive stuff.
all this doesn't change your main point. but, like you said - it's more complicated.
