hmmm and when I put on a movie at home, even if I haven't seen it I say "watch" but def say "see" if I went to the theater for it 🤔 maybe because home is not as immersive?

it is because movies are ephemeral and tv is continuous. you go to see a movie at the theater because the movie happens and it is done, in fact, it won’t be in the theater for long. that’s why we "catch a movie" but not a tv show. television is a continuous medium, it doesn’t stop. it isn’t something you see, it is something you watch. it is going to continue happening whether you are there are not. this is evident in other places — you go to "see" fireworks (ephemeral), but you go bird "watching" (continuous). you "watch" a footbal game bc there are continual games in a season, but you "see" a concert bc you, in all likelihood, will not be attending that concert again. there is a difference in the nature of the experience

Because the movies involves spectacle. It’s like seeing fireworks. The movie Palace is part of the event that is spectacular. You don’t watch a spectacle. You see a spectacle. Let me talk about TV. We’re talking about the event of sitting using our eyes and reflecting. That entire reflective process is watching.

they denote the location of the viewer. if from the domicile or the watch tower if you will, you are stationary and viewing from a home base. the other indicates that you have wandered away from the watch tower and are not viewing from home base.
