The funny thing that hurt the most about reading this was that I WAS that friend. I used to put my whole gaming group's interest above my own, liking and wanting to play games they liked to play even though I had no interest in them. When asked why I'd simply reply with "because im gaming with you, so im going to enjoy it no matter what". I even would go as far as to buy them games if they didn't have them just so we could play together, or I'd buy the game they were playing. I ended up having something happen to me IRL that affected my mental health so bad that it took me two years to finally recover from. Sadly they would never know that because soon after instead of understanding what was wrong with me or trying to help they just wrote it of as me problematic and one day just told me they didnt want me around anymore. Keep in mind they knew what happened to me too, yet still chose to do this. I was friends with these people for 9 years, then one day nothing. So after all of that I dont act that way with anyone anymore. Sadly this is probably the case for a lot of people that have my old mindset.

Had a friend for 22 years since childhood, we gamed together basically every day, games in rotation together and all that. He was always better at competitive stuff than me. When we finally met some people who were also better, it gradually became apparent it was much more important to him to win/improve than anything else. Found myself isolated from most of their endeavors. Now we're not in contact. It hurt real bad, but whatcha gonna do?
