As a trapper a cat is actually the easiest animal to catch. Cats are extremely curious. I say they found a easy food source and multiple generations posted up near the area causing over hundreds of years of what you’re seeing

Been to the tar pits a few times (in 1960s and 70s before skull exhibit) and I cannot fathom the 🤯🤯🤯 NUMBER OF ANIMALS trapped UNDER THAT SURFACE.
