@foodiegirltour: One of the many reasons why a trip to the south of the Dominican Republic is a MUST. 🇩🇴🌿💦 📍 Balneario Villa Miriam | Barahona, DR Villa Miriam is a privately owned natural oasis in the San Rafael area of Barahona, surrounded by lush greenery. The property has a series of natural pools and small waterfalls fed by fresh, crystal clear water. The water is cold but honestly, not unbearably cold. Once we got in, we didn’t want to get out. It was so refreshing and the entire place is absolutely beautiful. Moments like this really remind me just how much natural beauty there is in DR. 🥹🇩🇴 A few things to know before you go: 💦 Entrance was RD$500 per person when we visited. 🌿 There are several natural pools and waterfalls to explore. 🍺 You’ll find local vendors selling everything from cold beers and coffee to WiFi. 🫓 And PLEASE get a yaniqueque before you leave! Ours were perfectly crispy and 3 for RD$100, you really can’t beat that. We stayed in Barahona for 3 nights, which I definitely recommend if you’re exploring the south. There are so many other beaches, rivers, natural pools and waterfalls throughout the area. Barahona was also our home base for visiting Bahía de las Águilas, which was about a 2-hour drive away, so it worked perfectly for our itinerary. One thing to keep in mind: the south of DR is still pretty undeveloped, so don’t come expecting fancy accommodations or restaurants. It’s a much more local experience, but honestly, that’s part of what made the trip so special for us. Also, if you’re planning to visit beaches around Barahona like San Rafael, off peak season may actually be a better time to go. During the summer months, some of the shoreline can get a lot of sargassum, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind when planning your trip.
