@theblackbayou: Jefferson Parish residents are #FedUp with water bills that don’t add up. 💧💸 Some residents say their water bills have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled despite little to no change in their household usage. One Marrero couple reported a bill that nearly quadrupled, while another resident received a $4,000 bill claiming 400,000 gallons of water usage. The parish says new smart meters are more accurate and that leaks may explain some unusually high bills. But residents are asking a simple question: If the meter says they used it, where did all that water go? And while the Jefferson Parish Council has heard the complaints and discussed potential solutions, residents are frustrated that they’re still being left to fight through massive bills and billing disputes on their own. The council even tabled ordinances aimed at addressing the complaints. Infrastructure needs to be upgraded. But residents shouldn’t have to choose between paying an inaccurate bill and putting food on the table. If you’re going to charge people more, you’d better be able to prove exactly what they’re paying for.
