@forthefew_: Chronic betrayal trauma can happen when adult content keeps entering the relationship through discovery, secrecy, broken promises, minimizing, hiding, relapse, or finding out there was more than you were originally told. Eventually, it stops being only about the adult content. It becomes about never knowing when you’re actually safe. You may find yourself checking his phone, comparing your body to other women, questioning whether he’s attracted to you, analyzing small changes in behavior, struggling during intimacy, or feeling anxious even when things seem to be going well. That doesn’t mean healing is impossible. But healing requires more than him simply saying he’ll stop. The cycle has to actually change. Adult content has to be addressed honestly. Secrecy has to end. Accountability has to become consistent. Your pain has to be taken seriously instead of treated like something you should be over by now. And your healing can’t depend entirely on whether he does everything perfectly either. Part of recovery is rebuilding your own sense of safety, learning to trust what your body is telling you without living in constant fear, separating his choices from your worth, and slowly becoming secure in yourself again. You do not have to spend the rest of your relationship waiting for the next discovery. Healing is possible. But it starts when the betrayal stops being managed and starts being truly addressed.
