@simplify.nursing: ## 🐕 Dog Bite First Aid A dog bite is an injury caused when a dog’s teeth break or damage the skin. ### What to do immediately 1. Control the bleeding: Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or gauze if the wound is bleeding. 2. Wash the wound: Rinse and wash the wound thoroughly with soap and plenty of running water for about 15 minutes. 3. Apply an antiseptic: After cleaning, an appropriate antiseptic such as chlorhexidine or povidone-iodine may be used. 4. Cover the wound: Use a clean dressing to protect the wound. Avoid tightly closing or sealing the wound yourself. 5. Go to a hospital immediately: Dog bites need medical assessment because of the risk of rabies, tetanus, infection, and tissue damage. A healthcare professional will determine whether you need rabies vaccination or other treatment. 6. Get information about the dog: If it is safe to do so, obtain information from the owner about the dog and its vaccination status. Do not try to catch or handle an unfamiliar or aggressive dog. ⚠️ Important: Do not ignore a dog bite, even if the wound looks small. Rabies is a serious disease that is preventable when appropriate treatment is started promptly.
