Colleges in Italy are amazing, not sure who told you they weren’t. They’re definitely way harder on average than your American college but also there’s huge differences depending on which college you go to

Liguria is known to be mean to tourists, so it's not like this in the rest of Italy especially in the south.

I hate hearing when other Americans say Italians are mean!! I live in northeast Italy and all the locals are so amazing. It’s important to learn their language and adapt their lifestyle when living in their country. When you do that they are genuinely the most hospitable people!

You were in Liguria. Remember that every Italian region has its own characteristics and uniqueness. There are many different Italies.

wouldn’t consider spending the summer in italy as „living in europe“ or „moving abroad“ - despite this of course it can be confusing getting contradicting answers. But if you really wanted facts about flipflops and driving just read the italian road traffic act on the internet or let chat gpt do for you. and about stairs: deal with it - we can’t destroy buildings/monuments that are hundred of years old to install lifts. however, if you are disabled there will often be a way somewhere.

Bad customer service? No, it’s just that we don’t need to grovel for tips. That’s a plus.

I do agree with customer service, Italy has terrible customer service on average and if you have any issues at any given time you can rest assured nobody will be willing to help. The USA wins hands down

The United States generally ranks behind most other high-income nations in combined health and education metrics. While the U.S. leads in advanced medical technology and top-tier higher education, it scores lower on overall population health outcomes, universal access, and baseline K-12 student performance.HealthcareGlobal Standing: The U.S. often ranks last or near the bottom among high-income countries (such as Commonwealth Fund studies) due to high costs, administrative complexity, and lack of universal coverage.Outcomes: The U.S. trails peers in life expectancy and has higher rates of infant and maternal mortality compared to Western Europe and other wealthy nations

You seem like a very kind and lovely girl, but you spent a couple of months in the smallest, most expensive and touristy region of Italy and travelled only in the most touristic city of the country. So how can you use that experience to judge an entire continent? Europe is around 10.18 million km², while Liguria is only about 5,420 km². You were living in a tiny little town that, during the summer, is mainly populated by wealthy tourists. I’m saying this because I come from a place very similar to that, and I know how it works: prices go up during the summer because businesses try to make as much money as possible from tourists. And, by the way, Ligurians are famously not exactly fond of tourists 😂 If you look it up, you’ll find thousands of memes about it. Travelling and living abroad is supposed to broaden your mind, but you judged an entire continent based on a very short experience in one of the smallest and most tourist-oriented parts of one country. And if someone complained about Italian universities, it’s probably because they are genuinely difficult. They can certainly be complicated bureaucratically, but academically they are very solid. In fact, Erasmus students who come to Italy often struggle with the workload and the system at first. So yes, maybe Italian universities could be improved in some ways, but I’d still take them over American universities that apparently manage to graduate people who don’t even know the difference between Italy and Europe 😭 TikTok is literally full of videos of people who have no idea what Europe actually is. A little more travelling before judging an entire continent might be a good idea.

As in most third world countries, in America you need to be fake to get sth done and get a good review. In Europe people get paid.

work in a hotel in Italy, and American tourists are among the rudest; they do nothing but complain about the air conditioning, and for all their wealth, they refuse to pay for anything. One of them even accused me of demanding upfront payment—which was a lie, as I had told him he could pay either immediately or later, whichever he preferred
