@_brittney.elizabeth_: It’s a tough, confronting conversation, but I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I wonder how other people are working this out. ✨ #neurodivergent #actuallyautistic #audhd #nocontact

Only go no contact if you can handle getting a call that she was found gone for a while. That’s what happened for me. I went no contact for similar reasons to you and I don’t regret it. I’m just sad at what could have been..

YUP! And I firmly believe that dx is vital because undx ADHD/Autistic parents can be abusive AF to their kids. I understand why I was abused now but it doesn't change it and it can't be undone. And they are still that way.

I dont know if my mother is autistic, I know she got an adhd diagnosis and just never told me. She was just very nasty and violent tho too... which only I seemed to receive... I kind of wonder about that like ok so maybe undiagnosed issues.... but why pick certain targets? ig because I couldn't fight back? my younger sibling didn't receive the same treatment at all so I don't really find that to be a satisfying answer....

I know I messed up with my kids. I’m 50 and just got diagnosed this year. But even though I was undiagnosed, they had the ability to voice to me their issues and I have apologized over the years and have changed a lot. That changes how I ended up getting diagnosed after 20 years of searching.

I stopped saying hi to my father because he got hyperfixated on an old TV show and would talk about it very loudly (painfully to me) in excessive detail every day

I wish there was more information out there about the dark side of undiagnosed autism. I strongly believe a lot of personality disorders are presentations of autism without interventions.

Barely lasted a year post diagnosis (at 42) and me learning to advocate for myself before mum had a tantrum one night and cut me off. Probably drunk. I never replied back and feel free. My theory is my mum's undiagnosed ADHD and childhood trauma combined into full blown narcissism. So many of her generation are the same

Low contact with my undiagnosed father. I would research bipolar disorder over and over as a child bc I was so confused about how he could be fine one moment and blow up the next over something Very Small like me being two minutes late to be picked up. (They were just meltdowns and he has shit emotional regulation 😀)

I'm low contact with my entire family, but they don't know that. 🤷🏼‍♀️😅 But yes, mom's undiagnosed. I'm late diagnosed. I was parentified at an early age and then the scape goat.

I've been no contact with my mom for about a decade now. I have no regrets and no plans of ever speaking with her again. Some of her choices were so horrendous that there really is no going back. I'm grateful to have people in my life who I'm close to that support me in this. I used to bring up the idea that I might talk to her again if she ever made real changes in her life that lasted years, but my best friend would always gently remind me that people rarely change. My peace is worth everything.

I went through a lot of therapy and it was hard to go low contact. She told me her ADHD was her super power. She was a manipulator. It was easier to go low contact then no contact. Sadly she had a stroke and now can't speak as well. it has actually helped our relationship. I'm her POA so I still have to have contact. But I've been at peace now with it. It was a long road to get here.

There are also a whole lot of adults who end up getting diagnosed because their kids got diagnosed. It’s one of the most common pathways for late diagnosis.
