Yall, it’s a problem with the phrase itself. “Serve” is already used in a semi sexual/romantic nature, so making a joke based on “serve and protect” is unintentionally offensive. Add to that his tone, and it just doubles down the idea. I’m sure if he had any other one of his usual jokes it would work better, it’s just a poor choice of words
