@ian.jadepeak: 2,500 people will swim from Europe to Asia this Sunday, August 23rd during The Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim. Turkey closes the strait to all marine traffic for the morning. Thousands of swimmers from 60+ countries will jump in at Kanlıca on the Asian side and finish 6.5 km down the channel at Kuruçeşme, on the European side. There’s an oceanic wrinkle in this race that causes a bit of drama: there’s a countercurrent along the European shore by the finish line. If you miss the line that brings you safely to Europe, you’ll drift along the main current outside the race bounds and have to get rescued by safety boats waiting nearby. Happens to at least a couple of people every year. Photos: AP · Michael Clarke, CC BY-SA 2.0 #bosphorus #openwaterswimming #istanbul #swimming #adventuretravel
