The person assigned to my room had a mental breakdown on the car ride to college. The college accommodated her by moving her into a room with her friend (making a double a triple). It wasn’t until the very end of the third semester that they moved the other girl out of the triple and put her with me. We had a corner dorm, full kitchen that was set up as an apartment, our own bathroom (with tub), walk in closet and hall closet. It was absolutely glorious.

Just as a warning, as an RA, while pushing the beds together sounds really nice, you could potentially get in trouble for using that side of the room/bed as they need to save that space so someone else could move-in.

ha ha for everybody commenting to use the other bed you don’t know anything about colleges. They do spot checks to make sure that you aren’t using the other half of the room and if you are, you will get charged double for room and board.

Friendly reminder for everyone on the comments that this does happen and it is possible to stay this way the entire year. And i not every dorm makes sure youre not using all pieces of furniture. Last year I had a roommate who ditched and dropped last second and i had a double the whole year to myself. The chances you get a roommate are medium to slim as if you dont have one 2 weeks into the semester yoh may get one in the semester change as theres students who transfer. Usually your college sends emails such as letting you know you have to be roommate ready which juat means not occupying all of the furniture. For my school we never did actual checks, just made me be aware i had to be ready if need be. Maybe for the people saying “enjoy it while it lasts” or “wont be long” or saying how their college shafted them surprisingly with a random roommate, maybe think about the possibilty that not ever college is the same 😭🙏 i never got checked or fined for using everything in my dorm ever

trust dont use or even touch the other side I had a Irish goodbye roommate and I moved her stuff to my side to clean the tack off the floor and the ra checked and charged me for a double even tho I was cleaning and was putting everything back

I had a double with no roommate my entire freshman year. I lowered the second bed, bought a long body pillow with matching twin blanket and turned it into a couch. I got computer tables and used those as end tables. That way I could study and eat there comfortably

not in a dorm but my roommate and i live in a 4 bedroom apartment and no one moved in to the two rooms that our last roommates moved out of
