this kinda stuff counts with kids too. snatched my daughter by the hair once just in time to keep her from getting pancaked by a pick-up. do I feel awful that I pulled her hair? (the only thing I could reach, she was running) ABSOLUTELY. Would I do it again to save her life? 100000%

I mean yeah. When my cat was hiding in a bush next to a busy road I was trying to grab whatever I could. If I yanked her leg and broke it that’s better than her getting hit by a car and dying.

one time my dog slipped out of her (old) harness and bolted straight towards the highway and I grabbed her by her tail mid sprint. she yelped but was okay and didnt break anything. if you need to make your animal uncomfortable or risk hurting them to save their life I say do it. alive with injuries is better than a traumatic death.

oh yeah totally dude when my dog got out of the house and my options were either possibly lose him or grab him by the tail and pull it a little so i could then grab his collar i chose to grab his tail and yeah it hurt for a second but i got him back and that's what matters

and people are going to tell you that you should have done more groundwork on halting but they forget that sometimes when you're in the saddle shit happens that NO ONE expects especially because both you and the horse are animals and we react unpredictably to danger and to save my horses LIFE in an emergency im going to do what I need to do

My kitten almost got eaten by my moms golden lab that shes fostering. I made a choice to quickly pick her up by her tail, if i broke it, thats my fault, but i cant be cleaning her corpse off my floors.

Under the animal welfare act we have to protect animals from harm, if saving the animals life requires we hurt them slightly then it is what should be legally done, for example vaccinations or stitching wounds. Both my examples are not nessacarily painful but are very uncomfortable and can cause pain depending on circumstances

i know i’m not a horse buuut i feel like this can apply to people too - i fell in a campfire when i was younger and landed on an open flame piece of wood on my hands/elbows and my knees , if my dad wouldn’t of snatched me by my ponytail…it would of been so so much worse for me.

My bird almost flew into a fast closing door. So I grabbed her by whatever I could which ended up being her tail and pulled her back. I would rather risk a fixable injury than never seeing her again. I apologized profusely to her after and after examination there was no injury. I love my baby girl so much
