@drdavidabbasi: Water isn't as soft as you think once you're falling fast enough. Here's the actual physics behind it. 🌊 The higher you jump from, the faster you're moving when you hit the water, and at high enough speeds, water stops behaving like a cushion and starts acting almost like a solid surface. Professional high divers jumping from around 27 meters hit the water at roughly 85 km/h, experiencing an impact force close to 5 to 7 G's in a fraction of a second. This is exactly why body position matters so much. Elite divers train to enter the water perfectly vertically, toes first, with their entire body rigid and aligned, because even a slightly off-kilter entry with the hips, knees, or shoulders out of line dramatically increases the force absorbed by the body, and injuries like torn muscles or joint damage happen fast when legs separate on impact. For untrained jumpers off cliffs, bridges, or rocks, the risks go even further. Recreational diving is actually one of the leading causes of head and spinal cord injuries in the US, since an uncontrolled entry at high speed can cause spinal compression fractures, internal injuries, or loss of consciousness on impact, which becomes especially dangerous in open water with currents. It might look like a fun jump, but at the right height and the wrong angle, that water hits back a lot harder than people expect. 🩺 ✅Follow @drdavidabbasi for More Daily Medical Content & Health Tips! 📍Schedule a consultation in Delray Beach! When people toss a rock before a jump is it to test how they will fall or is it to break water surface tension to prevent this?

he broke so many bones because the water was too shallow where he landed and there wasn't enough water to cushion the blow of the fall
