Yes the ocean is big but the water can take up different shapes and forms, water goddesses are big and wide but they can also be slim and small. It just depends on how they wanna manifest, after all, they are shape shifters.

The ocean is also very very dangerous, which clashes with the patriarchal version of a mermaid where they are fragile skinny women with tails. The ocean is dangerous! Powerful! And certainly not this “innocent little girl”. I hate how media depicts mermaids that way.
