The central idea Goddard's starting point is extremely radical: Consciousness is the one and only reality. The important distinction is that he isn't simply saying "think positive thoughts and your wishes will come true." His teaching is closer to: What state of consciousness are you occupying? If you continuously experience yourself internally as someone who is rejected, powerless, lacking, unsuccessful, or confused, you tend to perceive and respond to life from that state. But if you move inwardly into the state of already being the person who has what she desires, your thoughts, emotions, attention and actions begin to organize around that assumption. This is what he calls the Law of Assumption. The book specifically explores consciousness, assumption, desire, attention, attitude, creation, faith, persistence and destiny. � Google Books And there is a beautiful spiritual layer to it One of the things I think you may find particularly interesting is his interpretation of God and creation. Instead of: God → creates you → you ask God for something Goddard essentially turns the model inward: God = consciousness → consciousness imagines → imagination creates experience. That doesn't necessarily mean that everything that happens to a person is their fault. That's an important distinction. His philosophy is about the creative relationship between consciousness, imagination and experienced reality—not a justification for blaming people for suffering or circumstances beyond their control.
