What even is love Of course, we can overcomplicate it by saying that loving someone is sometimes egotistical, that you do not truly love the person, but rather the version of yourself you become when you are with them, or simply the way they make you feel. I see young people hating immigrants, or hating the decline of their fatherland. It does not always come from pure evil or hatred. Sometimes, beneath it, there is love for their people, their culture, their home, a desire to preserve something they feel is being lost. The things we hate can sometimes only be symptoms of something deeper. Perhaps you do not truly hate the loud immigrant on the train. Perhaps you hate yourself for being a coward, for staying silent when you wanted to speak up. Perhaps the anger is directed outward because it is easier than confronting what is happening within yourself. That is why we have to be careful when we feel hatred. Hatred can consume you, just as love can. Both have the power to take over your entire being. You are a divine vessel, made by God. And you have a choice in what you fill yourself with.
