A key direction being explored is ML-DSA-65 under FIPS 204, a post-quantum digital signature standard published by NIST. The research includes testing how this technology could be integrated across multiple layers of blockchain infrastructure, from user account keys to validator consensus keys. InterLink is also exploring validator consensus key rotation, allowing validator keys to change over time rather than remain permanent, with consideration for both staking and PoA environments, including genesis import and export compatibility. Beyond cryptography, the team is experimenting with infrastructure improvements such as configurable Block-STM parallel execution and pre-state caching, aimed at improving transaction execution and state-processing efficiency. Post-quantum security is not a single upgrade. It requires continuous research across cryptography, consensus, key management, and network architecture.
