We Are So Dead by indie developer and indie publisher Real Players / Tbjbu2 Games / Tbjbu2 Studios from Israel on the Unreal Engine 5 launched on STEAM EARLY ACCESS August 17, is an asymmetrical co-op seance horror game, where 2–6 players descend through a haunted house in which one player begins the match already dead and becomes a ghost who can see the demon, hidden dangers, relic locations, and safe paths while the living players must rely on a Ouija board and flickering lights to interpret warnings they cannot directly hear. The core gameplay revolves around the unique dead first mechanic, with ghosts unable to speak or physically affect the world but able to guide surviving teammates through seance communication, while living players explore nine procedurally generated floors, collect relics, uncover the demon’s true name, avoid deadly encounters, and attempt to complete an exorcism before sunrise despite frequent misunderstandings that can turn desperate survival moments into chaotic and humorous disasters. Each session features different demon behaviors and escalating tension as fallen players join the ghost team, expanding the group’s ability to locate threats and provide guidance, creating a horror experience that combines psychological fear, cooperative problem solving, and unpredictable teamwork where the difference between survival and death depends on whether the living can correctly understand the messages coming from beyond the grave. Some players complain about the ghost player must guide living teammates through Ouija board clues that are frequently misread, causing chaotic rounds, failed strategies, and moments where the intended cooperative horror experience becomes more annoying than enjoyable. Players also criticize the early access rough edges, including unclear mechanics, confusing item and power up feedback, a steep learning curve, occasional bugs, hit detection problems with the demon, multiplayer synchronization issues, and reports of some access or launch difficulties that reduce the overall polish. Additional complaints focus on limited content depth and replayability, with players noting that maps and floor variations can become repetitive after several sessions, while some ghost players find waiting after dying too passive and others question whether the current amount of content justifies the game’s price. Some players also complain about its unfinished state, with many players describing it as a poorly polished, confusing, and rushed experience that feels more like an unfinished prototype than a proper Early Access release, criticizing the lack of a tutorial, overwhelming walls of text, unclear objectives, terrible UI design, confusing menus, poor explanations of mechanics, and the feeling that players spend more time trying to understand what to do than actually enjoying the gameplay. Many reviewers also complained about the core gameplay systems, especially the slow and frustrating Ouija board communication, difficult controls, unclear ghost interactions, weak monster design, bad audio, poor physics, slow movement speed, dark and confusing maps, lack of matchmaking or public lobbies, and the requirement to play with friends, with several players saying the execution is disappointing and not worth the price. Overall, the negative reviews describe the game as a frustrating, unpolished, and poorly optimized horror experience with bad visuals, confusing mechanics, limited functionality, and a lack of player guidance, with some comparing it to low-quality AI-generated games or calling it one of the worst horror games they have played.
