It gives me great pleasure, as Mayor of Slough, to recognise a very special individual today — Barrister Abid Hussain. When we speak about humanitarian work, we speak about compassion, generosity and, most importantly, being there for people during the most difficult moments of their lives. In October 2005, a devastating earthquake struck Azad Jammu and Kashmir, leaving communities facing unimaginable loss, suffering and hardship. At that time, Barrister Abid Hussain, together with a group of friends, independently travelled to the affected areas to provide support to those who desperately needed it. They took with them cash donations, blankets, shawls and tents, providing practical help and comfort to families who had lost so much. What makes this recognition particularly special for me personally is that my beloved father, former Mayor of Slough Raja Mohammed Zarait, was also part of that group of friends who came together to support the earthquake relief effort. It was during that humanitarian mission that Barrister Abid Hussain and my father first met. From that moment, they developed a brotherly relationship which has continued throughout the years. For me, as the son of Raja Mohammed Zarait and now serving as Mayor of Slough, it is a real privilege to recognise someone who has shared such an important chapter of my father’s life. Humanitarian service is not simply about giving money or supplies. It is about showing up, standing alongside people in their hour of need, and reminding them that they are not alone. Barrister Abid, your decision to travel personally with your friends and provide practical support to the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is something that deserves to be remembered and recognised. Today, I am proud to honour you for your compassion, generosity and commitment to humanitarian service. On behalf of the people of Slough, and also personally as the son of Raja Mohammed Zarait, I want to say thank you. Thank you for helping people when they needed it most, and thank you for the brotherly friendship and bond you have shared with my father over so many years. It is my great honour, as Mayor of Slough, to present you with this Mayoral Recognition Shield in recognition of your humanitarian service. Please join me in giving Barrister Abid Hussain a very warm round of applause. Khalid Iqbal Malik, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Zara Socho Production social media channel, is recognised for his longstanding community activism and commitment to highlighting matters of genuine public interest. Through responsible journalism and dedicated advocacy, he has given a voice to important community concerns while rendering valuable charitable service—particularly to the people of his ancestral city of Jhelum. Chaudhry Dil Pazeer is a highly respected and well-liked community figure who has worked tirelessly for more than three decades in support of the Kashmir cause and the wider community. He was rewarded for this work and became advisor to the former President of AJK the late Barrister Sultan Mehmood Choudry. Ch Dil Pazeer’s steadfast commitment, selfless service and enduring advocacy have earned him widespread admiration, and the community is immensely proud of his invaluable contribution. Thank you.
