Sourdough Starter Day 1 Add 1 tbsp whole wheat flour, 1 tbsp water, and 1 date pit. Day 2 Repeat the same as Day 1. If it’s too dry to mix, add 1 extra tsp water. Day 3 Repeat the same process, feeding once a day. Day 4 Feed twice: once in the morning and once at night. Day 5 Before the morning feeding, remove 1 tbsp of the mixture and throw it away. Then feed as usual. At night, feed again as normal. Day 6 Feed twice again: once in the morning and once at night. Day 7 Your starter is ready to use. ⸻ Tips: 1. Don’t close the jar all the way. Just place the lid loosely on top. 2. Keep your starter on the counter, close to the stove but not too close, to help it ferment. 3. Wood or metal is fine, just avoid reactive metals like aluminum (wood is better). 4. Always clean the sides of the jar. 5. Use drinking water, not tap water. 6. While it’s growing, it’s normal for it to smell bad at first, and it’s also normal to see separation with water on top and flour below. You may also see a gray color, that’s normal too. 7.
