The suitcase on the bedroom floor was only half-packed, but it already felt like a wall standing between them. Milk folded a beige linen blazer with precision. As a model, her upcoming event in Tokyo was the biggest milestone of her career. She should have been excited, but her eyes kept drifting to the bed. Love was curled into a small, silent ball under the duvet. Usually, Love was a force of nature. She ran her own business, took no nonsense from anyone, and could intimidate people twice her size. But right now, she was a heartbroken kitten.
"Love, sweetheart," Milk said softly. Her voice was calm and entirely devoted. A muffled groan came from the blankets. "No." Milk smiled, walking over to sit on the edge of the bed. "I need to pack my clothes, Love. And my favorite sweater is currently being held hostage under you." The blanket shifted. Love peeked out, her big eyes shining with tears. Her bottom lip pouted out. "Don't go to Japan. Just stay here. Please.” "You know I have to go," Milk brushing a stray lock of hair from Love’s forehead. "It's just for two weeks." "Two weeks is too long," Love countered, sitting up and crossing her arms. "That is too long for me to be without my person." It was a total contrast to the Love the world knew. To the public, Love was independent and firm. But behind closed doors, she was entirely fragile and clingy when it came to Milk. "I will miss you every single second," Milk leaning forward to press a soft kiss against Love’s forehead. "But I have a surprise for you before I leave tomorrow." Love sniffed, her fierce exterior melting. "What surprise?" "Well, I know someone who gets very sulky when she’s hungry," Milk teased. "And since I cannot pack you in my suitcase, I decided to bring a little bit of Japan to you tonight." Love’s ears practically perked up. "Food?" "Dress up. We are going out," Milk smiled. Thirty minutes later, Milk led Love into a private room at their favorite Japanese restaurant. The moment the food started arriving, Love’s gloomy cloud began to lift. Milk had ordered everything Love adored; rich ramen, crispy shrimp tempura, sizzling wagyu beef, and fresh salmon sashimi. Love’s eyes went wide. "Did you order the entire menu?" "Only the best for my girl," Milk chuckled, pouring hot green tea into Love's cup. "Go on. Eat." Love didn't need to be told twice. She took a big spoonful of ramen broth and let out a happy sigh. She picked up a piece of wagyu, blew on it, and held it out to Milk. "Ah," Love ordered softly. Milk obediently ate the beef, smiling. "Delicious. But you should eat more." "I am eating!" Love mumbled around a piece of tempura. For a few minutes, the only sounds were the clicking of chopsticks. But as the meal neared its end, the reality of the morning departure crept back in. Love slowed down, staring at her plate. "Milk?" "Yes, my love?" Milk answered, putting her chopsticks down to give Love her full attention. "Who is going to make you coffee over there?" Love asked, her voice dropping into that fragile, quiet tone again. "Who is going to remind you to eat when you get too focused on your work?" Milk reached across the table, wrapping her long fingers around Love’s smaller hands. "I have set five different alarms on my phone to remind me to eat," Milk said reassuringly. "And every time I drink coffee, I will FaceTime you. It will be like we are having breakfast together." Love looked down at their joined hands. "Promise?" "I promise. You are my home. No matter how far I fly, I always come right back to you." Milk stood up, moved to sit right next to Love, and pulled her into a warm embrace. Love buried her face into Milk’s neck, wrapping her arms tightly around her fiancée's waist. "You better do well on the very first day so you can come home early." Milk let out a soft laugh, kissing the top of Love's head. "I will try my best, my sweet girl. Now, do you have room left for matcha ice cream?" Love peeked up, a tiny smile finally returning to her face. "Always." #milklove #fyp
