@holvek: A Type III civilization on the Kardashev scale is a civilization of incredible galactic scale, capable of harnessing the energy of not just a single planet or star, but virtually the entire galaxy. The Kardashev scale was proposed by Soviet astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev in 1964 and initially included three levels: a Type I civilization harnesses the energy of its planet, a Type II civilization harnesses the energy of its star, and a Type III civilization harnesses the energy of an entire galaxy. By comparison, humanity hasn't even reached Type I yet and is approximately at level 0.7 – 0.8 on the scale. A Type III civilization could exist around millions or even billions of star systems, harvesting energy directly from stars, constructing enormous orbital structures, and utilizing so-called Dyson swarms — colossal solar collectors surrounding stars and collecting a significant portion of their energy. This energy could be used for industry, interstellar travel, the creation of artificial worlds, and incredibly powerful computing systems. Theoretically, such a civilization could spread across the galaxy over millions of years, creating a network of autonomous settlements and machines.
