@twxwrts: Miu’s laughter was the kind of sound that could instantly warm a room. It was a bright, melodic sound that easily cut through the noise of the crowded local community center. Lena stood near the back, adjusting the focus ring on her camera, pretending to capture the bustling charity bake sale but mostly just capturing Miu. Miu was a force of nature. She was the event coordinator, but to the neighborhood, she was simply the glue that held them all together. She was currently animatedly talking to Mrs. Higgins, an elderly woman from down the street, holding both of the woman's hands and smiling so widely that her eyes crinkled into half-moons. Miu loved people, and people, inevitably, loved Miu. "She doesn't have an off switch, does she?" Lena jumped slightly, lowering her camera to see Elias, a mutual friend and fellow volunteer, leaning against the folding table beside her. He was eating a slightly squashed blueberry muffin. "I don't think she wants one," Lena replied softly, a faint, fond smile playing on her lips. "She’s been running around since six this morning," Elias noted, shaking his head. "She bought coffee for the entire setup crew out of her own pocket, spent an hour painting faces for the kids, and I just saw her successfully negotiate a turf war between two rival pastry bakers. The girl is a saint." "She just cares," Lena murmured, her eyes drifting back to where Miu was now enthusiastically hugging Mrs. Higgins goodbye. "She wants everyone around her to be happy." And that was the undeniable truth that had caused Lena to fall so helplessly, deeply in love with her. It wasn't a sudden crash; it was a slow, quiet sinking. It happened in the quiet moments between the chaos. It happened when Miu would remember exactly how Lena took her tea (earl grey, splash of oat milk, one sugar), or when Miu would leave little sticky notes of encouragement on Lena's camera bag. Over the course of six months, they had become fast friends. But for Lena, friendship had long ago morphed into an all-consuming devotion. Miu gave so much of her heart to the world, spreading her joy so thin to make sure everyone else felt seen and loved. Lena’s only desire was to be the person who poured that love back into Miu. The slow burn of their connection reached a boiling point on a brisk evening in late November. The community center had finally closed after their annual Thanksgiving drive. The streets were quiet, bathed in the amber glow of the streetlights. Miu and Lena were walking toward the subway station. The adrenaline of the long day was finally wearing off, leaving a comfortable, sleepy silence between them. A sudden gust of icy wind swept down the avenue. Miu, who in her typical scatterbrained optimism had assumed a thin cardigan would suffice for late autumn, shivered violently, her teeth chattering as she wrapped her arms around herself. Without missing a beat, Lena stopped on the sidewalk. She unzipped her heavy, fleece-lined denim jacket, slid it off her shoulders, and draped it gently over Miu. Miu blinked in surprise, looking up at Lena from beneath the oversized collar. "Lena, no, you'll freeze—" "I run warm," Lena lied smoothly, adjusting the lapels so they covered Miu's chest securely. "Besides, you're shivering. Keep it." Miu clutched the edges of the jacket, burying her nose into the collar. "It smells like you," she whispered, a sudden, shy flush spreading across her cheeks that had nothing to do with the wind. "Like pine and dark roast coffee." ⏭️2️⃣ "I want to," Lena confessed, letting all the walls she had built around her feelings crumble away. She let Miu see the absolute depth of the love she had been harboring. "I want to take you out and treat you the way you deserve. I want to buy you flowers for no reason. I want to hold you when you're exhausted from saving the world. And I swear to you, Miu..." Lena’s voice grew thick with emotion. "I would never, ever break your heart. I just want to protect it."
A tear slipped from Miu's eye, catching the amber light of the streetlamp, but a radiant, breathtaking smile broke across her face. She let go of the jacket collar with one hand and reached up to weave her fingers through Lena's.
"I think," Miu whispered, stepping into Lena's space until their coats brushed, "I've been waiting for a long time for you to say that."
Lena let out a breath she felt like she had been holding for six months. She wrapped her arms around Miu's waist, pulling the girl in the oversized denim jacket flush against her chest. As she held her there, beneath the quiet city lights, Lena made a silent vow to herself. She would spend every day making sure Miu knew just how deeply she was loved, ensuring that the girl who gave the world her sunshine would never have to walk in the dark.

⏭️1️⃣Lena felt her heartbeat thunder against her ribs. She looked at Miu—at her bright, kind eyes, her slightly wind-chapped cheeks, and the way she seemed to shrink into the oversized jacket. In that moment, a profound, fiercely protective wave of affection washed over Lena. She realized she didn't just want to be near Miu; she wanted to cherish her. She wanted to be the one to pull her close when the world was cold, to remind her of her own beauty when she was too tired to see it herself.
"You always take care of everyone else, Miu," Lena said, her voice dropping to a soft, earnest timbre. She reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind Miu's ear.
Her fingers lingered against the warm skin of Miu's jaw. "But who takes care of you?"
Miu looked up, her breath hitching in the cold air. The bustling, cheerful energy she always carried softened, leaving something incredibly tender and vulnerable in its wake. "I... I don't know," Miu admitted softly. "I guess I never really thought about it."
"I think about it," Lena said, stepping a fraction of an inch closer. The space between them felt electric. "I think about it all the time. You spend every ounce of your energy trying to make sure the people around you are happy. You give away pieces of your heart to everyone you meet."
Miu’s eyes searched Lena’s, wide and questioning. "Is that a bad thing?"
"No," Lena breathed, her thumb gently stroking Miu’s cheekline. "It’s the most beautiful thing about you. But your heart is precious, Miu. It’s too rare to just be given away to people who don't know how to hold it."
Miu swallowed hard. "And... do you know how to hold it?"
