@sbsnews_au: Israel's ambassador to Australia has been hauled into Parliament House for a dressing down, following a report exonerating the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) over the killing of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom. Ambassador Hillel Newman has expressed sorrow with the family, but refused to apologise for Israel's actions, saying he cannot accept liability on his country's behalf. Zomi Frankcom and six others working for World Central Kitchen were killed in April 2024 in a targeted strike in Gaza. Penny Wong said Australia was “outraged” over the IDF’s decision to not pursue criminal proceedings. The foreign minster also labelled the timing of Israel's announcement "insulting" after learning of the decision hours after launching the Zomi Frankcom award for aid workers.
