@studyworkuk: 🇬🇧 You have a UK MSc/MA. You keep getting rejected for almost every job you apply to. This might be the main reason why. 👀 You’re probably applying with your degree instead of applying with evidence that you can do the job. A UK MSc is impressive — but employers are still asking: “Can this person actually do THIS role?” So here’s what you’re going to change: 1️⃣ Stop sending the same CV everywhere. Your CV should be tailored to the specific vacancy. The National Careers Service explicitly recommends matching your CV to the job description and highlighting the skills the employer asks for. 2️⃣ Stop describing duties. Start showing evidence. ❌ “Responsible for managing projects.” ✅ “Managed X project, coordinating X stakeholders and delivering X outcome.” Give them proof. 3️⃣ Read the person specification BEFORE applying. Look for: ESSENTIAL → ESSENTIAL → ESSENTIAL Those are the things you need to demonstrate clearly in your application. Civil Service guidance, for example, tells applicants to evidence the essential criteria with specific examples. 4️⃣ Stop hiding your overseas experience. Your experience doesn’t become worthless because it happened outside the UK. Translate it into the skills and outcomes relevant to the UK role. 5️⃣ Stop relying on your MSc to carry the application. Your MSc is a qualification. It isn’t automatically evidence that you can perform the job. Use your dissertation, research, projects, placements, previous employment and volunteering to demonstrate your capabilities. 6️⃣ Check whether your CV is even getting through the first filter. Some employers use applicant tracking systems to scan CVs for keywords from the job description. If your CV doesn’t clearly reflect the relevant terminology, you can be overlooked before a recruiter properly assesses you. 7️⃣ And stop applying just because you meet 40% of the advert. If you’re repeatedly missing essential requirements, sending more applications won’t necessarily solve the problem. You need to either: build the missing evidence → target a better-fit role → OR improve how you’re presenting the evidence you already have. The biggest mindset shift: Don’t ask: “Why won’t they hire me? I have an MSc.” Ask: “If the recruiter only looked at my application for 30 seconds, would they immediately see evidence that I can do this job?” If the answer is no, that’s what you fix. Your MSc gets attention. Your evidence gets you shortlisted.
