What if love isn’t always something you find? What if sometimes it’s something you recognize? I’ve been thinking about that lately—the possibility that some people enter our lives and somehow feel familiar before we ever truly know them. Not because of some perfect fairy-tale moment, but because something inside us becomes quiet in their presence. Maybe the right person doesn’t always arrive when life is easy. Maybe they arrive after disappointment, heartbreak, mistakes, distance, and lessons we never asked to learn. Maybe the timing matters because we needed to become who we are now to recognize what we might have overlooked before. And maybe love isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s laughter that makes you forget how heavy life has been. Sometimes it’s sitting beside someone without needing to fill the silence. Sometimes it’s a glance across a crowded room, a hand underneath a table, or an entire conversation spoken without either person saying a word. I think we spend so much of our lives asking, “What if?” What if it doesn’t work? What if we get hurt? What if we fall? But we rarely give the other questions the same power. What if it does work? What if everything we went through taught us how to love each other better? What if we fall—and discover someone willing to fall beside us? And what if we fly? Maybe love was never supposed to come with guarantees. Maybe it’s two imperfect people deciding that whatever tomorrow holds, they’d rather discover it together than spend their lives wondering what could have been. Eventually, there comes a point when the questions have to stop. When “What if?” becomes “What is.” And maybe that’s one of the most beautiful parts of loving someone: realizing you no longer need a thousand reasons to explain why.
