The reason Irish call dak skinned people blue is that there is some evidence that the first dark skinned people they encountered were Tuarag who dye their clothes with indigio (blue) which rubs off on their skin over time. Back then Dubh also had a dark evil connotation it was not a suitable word so GORM stuck. Irish have diplomacy in der genes.

Same for Icelandic, historically the world black had negative associations to it , when the Vikings encountered dark skin people they used words blue which was more dignified , although what they perceived as blue was very different to what we see it , but I find it fascinating the connection between Gaelic langauge and Icelandic ❤️
