@drleewarren: You just got the answer you prayed for. So why do you feel anxious instead of amazed? Here’s what I’ve learned in the OR and studying the brain: chronic stress keeps your mind in vigilance mode, always scanning for the next threat, even after the threat is gone. So when the answer finally shows up, your brain doesn’t know how to celebrate it. It just files it and starts looking for the next problem. Don’t biopsy the blessing. Not everything good needs to be cut open and examined for what could go wrong. Here’s the good news. Your brain doesn’t fully know the difference between something you’re vividly imagining and something that’s actually happening. That’s the same mechanism that makes your worst-case scenarios feel so real. Which means you can point it the other direction, on purpose. There’s a story in Luke 17 that captures this perfectly. Ten men were healed. Only one turned back, praising God, and fell at Jesus’s feet in thanks. The other nine walked on, already thinking about what came next, their families, the priests, rebuilding their lives. Understandable. Human. And a miracle unwitnessed. (Luke 17:15-16) Next time something good happens, don’t reach for the clipboard. Stop. Name it out loud. Picture it. Let it be enough for sixty seconds before you move on. Don't snatch anxiety from the jaws of awesome knock it off! Your brain will thank you, and you will experience more healing, hope, and higher performance in your life. Save this for the next time you find yourself, snatching anxiety from the jaws of awesome, and share this with a friend who could use it. I constantly scan for potential problems. I used to think it was a good character trait, but I now realize it robs joy. I'm working on it.

The other day I accidentally wrote in my journal, “ is it possible to be thankful for brain cancer?” Because I’m experiencing so many encounters that only Jesus could arrange and the work of the Holy Spirit. My response….” Yes, I’m thankful for glioblastoma.” God your will be done and your promise to make all things good for those who love you! And good isn’t my healing but for people to come to Jesus! Amen!

Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

A great way to “rewire” your mind is reading the Bible.

This is so true, your brian only does what your mind tells it to do, if you keep feeding your brain with negativity that's the only thing your brian understands, when you try to feed it good news it doesn't recognize that thought., so we have to repeatedly keep giving good news and good thoughts. Wake up with good thoughts. Tell your mind your in control.

Seeing this after I just prayed to God about my anxiety and my questioning His voice. (Is it Him or me Im hearing?) I don't doubt Him, I doubt myself and I need to work on that somehow.

as a nurse, I am always happy to find other Christians in medicine who see beyond our scientific understanding of medicine to recognize the beauty of God's design in us. God bless you in your work and may He continue to guide you!
