As a Gen Z, i know why many people saw it as a text book advice. We're universally struggling with inner battles where we more focus on how we feel than how to face and solve problem. What he said sounds so annoying and uncomfortable because it's so true. Our feelings are important but let them lead us a thousand times can't help our growth. We need to work and fight for what we love. Do anything u can do right now instead of sitting there and crying your heart out.

meditate to heal :
When you make an enemy of envy or anger or bad emotions, you can end up feeling like you have to “fight” them or repress them which often only worsens the problem. It’s better to observe your negative emotions and learn to let them pass or learn how to channel different thoughts. For example, you see someone in a nice outfit or car and you actively choose to think “good for them”

I moved to nyc as a 17 year old and all I cared about was art. All I wanted to do was meet Jerry because his articles were just so interesting to me. I stayed in wsp day after day just being there and then one day I saw him. I ran up to him and I expected him to shoo me away. He said, “you’re an artist? Lets take a quick seat and I want you to take me through ur notebooks” he liked ONE of my drawings. But that was everything to me at that time.
