Amy Acton, the Democratic Party's nominee for Ohio Governor, has broken ranks with Democrats on a few important issues. It's interesting because New York Times columnist Matthew Yglesias recently ran a column discussing what he called the "toxic traits" of the Democrat brand. What I noticed is that these simple stances by Amy—that most people would consider middle-of-the-road and common sense—seem to be working. In polls comparing her with her Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy, she looks like she's up in many of the polls and nearly tied in all the other ones. This makes me think that the parts of the Democratic brand that are toxic are relatively easy to identify: Uphold the law, don't cave to niche far-out culture issues, and believe that people should work in America.
