@am.9_y: Since 1979, the Iranian state has exercised power over women by regulating their appearance, movement, and presence in public space. This authority is not symbolic; It is rooted in everyday life and implemented through law, surveillance and punishment. Control over women's bodies is not a side effect of governance in Iran, but rather a core mechanism through which power is consolidated and social order is maintained. Since this system operates at the level of everyday behavior, political change in Iran cannot be understood as a simple transfer of power. Any real change in the system will require dismantling the structures that normalize control over bodies and present them as neither natural nor permanent. The question is not just who rules, but whether rule itself is based on coercion in women's lives. In Afghanistan, Iraq and Yemen, ideological power has followed this sad path since the Islamists took over “Persia the Great,” as it was known, where restrictions on women are presented as a moral necessity and submission becomes a measure of legitimacy. For this reason, internal conflicts in Iran have regional consequences. The collapse of its existing regime would weaken a model of governance used to justify repression across the Middle East. It will also confound the long-standing ideological competition between Iran (Shiite) and Saudi Arabia (Wahhabi - fundamentalist Sunni), in which what is taking place is often described as the “Islamic Cold War,” in which women’s bodies have been treated as instruments of influence and devices of legitimacy and authority. Undermining one pillar of this competition, Iran, will undermine the logic that underpins the broader system. What is happening in Iran today is not simply a struggle over political leadership or the state religion, but rather a confrontation with a form of government that continues to erase women - as human beings - from public life. The brave women at the heart of this revolution are not asking for symbolic reform, incremental concessions, or even the seven dollars offered by the mullahs. Rather, they demand the right to exist publicly and freely shape their future and the future of future generations. #islam #muslim #fyp #women #arab
