Teacher here. Totally agree. Some additional suggestions: Reach out with some of those questions via email beforehand so teachers are prepared to answer at conferences. And DON’T BE DEFENSIVE if you want honest feedback.

Quick question, is this being done while the child is sitting in on said conference or no?

Ask if there are any concerning behaviors from other classmates that may need to be addressed at home. Many times there are violent or behavioral kids in class and no one knows.

Yesssss I always ask questions. People also don’t realize that teachers hands are tied in many ways. They can’t tell you thinks up front but if you ask, then they can. You have to ask !

Granted this is a private school but I got 40mins talking to a teacher we met for kindergarten. However, I told her my husband and I aren’t sensitive people we want to know if there is an issue with our child. His preschool didn’t tell me there was an issue until the end 🤯 She basically said she don’t play like that 😂 so I was happy we could be on the same page.

It’s really good to hear what you can ask when there are no academic concerns too

I wish parents would say.. “tell me the truth, I want to know”. Most don’t want to know so they don’t get the truth

I always feel like I’m being too much if have questions lined up. I have questions, but I’m always concerned about how the teacher will think of me. I don’t want to be overwhelming.
