I told myself: PUT YOURSELF IN HER SHOES. She loved her three children. She asked for help—from everyone. She was prescribed more than 13 different medications over four months, and eventually, she lost it. She asked for help. She reached a breaking point.She exhausted every avenue she could think of to help herself, and then one day, she had nothing left. I started asking myself: WHAT IF, somewhere down the road, I BECOME LIKE HER? What if I reach that same point and, despite asking for help, I fall through the cracks of the system? Will I face the same predicament? No. I don’t want to, I don’t want to be like her. And I’m sure countless mothers don’t want to either—especially knowing what ultimately happened to her and her children. THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO CHANGE. For once, let there be accountability—not just for her, but for the system that was supposed to help her. Let the doctors and healthcare professionals involved be held accountable where appropriate. Let the current system be examined and held accountable for its failures. TOO MANY WOMEN HAVE SUFFERED because of gaps, failures, and a lack of responsibility from the very people and systems that are supposed to help mothers facing circumstances like Lindsay’s. Why? Because WE DON’T WANT TO BECOME HER. We don’t want to experience what she experienced. We don’t want to reach a point where we feel there is nowhere else to turn. And most importantly, we don’t want our children to suffer because the system failed to recognize that a mother was desperately asking for help. So yes, hold people accountable. Examine the system. Demand better safeguards. Demand better support. Because instead of looking back years from now and saying, “WHY DIDN’T ANYONE DO ANYTHING?”— Let this finally be the moment we can say: “THEY ARE FINALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ” Love, Charlotte 💝
