"Will you marry me now?" Minjeong rolled her eyes, though her smile was gentle. "You really are crazy. we're going to different colleges, remember?" Aeri and Ning, their closest friends, never let them live it down. Every time they hung out, they’d nudge each other and joke, "When's the wedding invitation arriving? we’ve been waiting for years!" Aeri said. Minjeong would brush it off, pretending to be annoyed, while Jimin would look at her with eyes full of hope. Four years of college passed in a blur of exams, laughter, and quiet moments only they shared. On their graduation day, confetti fell around them as Aeri and Ning cheered louder than anyone. "Okay, now you’re done with school," Ning said, nudging Minjeong’s arm. "No more excuses. when are you two finally getting married?" Aeri nodded in agreement. "We've been waiting for years, just say yes already." Everyone turned to look at them. Jimin took a deep breath, her heart pounding, and looked at Minjeong the way she always did like she was the only person in the whole world. Minjeong opened her mouth to say the same old line, but the words died in her throat. She looked at Jimin: The way she always saved her the best seat, how she stayed up to help her study even when she was exhausted, how she never got tired of asking her that same question, year after year. she realized then that she had stopped seeing Jimin as just her best friend a long time ago. she was tired of running away, tired of pretending she didn’t feel the same way. She stepped closer, took both of Jimin’s hands in hers, and looked straight into her eyes. Her voice was soft but sure, no trace of her usual teasing left. "Yes. of course, I will marry you." For a long moment, Jimin just stared, like she could not believe what she had heard. Then her eyes glistened, and a laugh bubbled out of her bright, warm, and full of relief. She squeezed Minjeong’s hand tight, pulling her closer until their foreheads touched. "Really?" Jimin whispered. Minjeong smiled the soft, genuine smile she only ever gave Jimin and nodded. "Really. I’ve been yours since the day you shared crayons and packed lunch with me in first grade. I just took too long to say it." Then her eyes filled with tears, and she laughed so happily it made everyone around them smile.
