@drugsinfo1: The Furosemide ; the potent diuretic In this video, the mechanism of action of furosemide is shown through a simple analogy. Furosemide kicks sodium out of the kidney tubule by blocking the Na⁺–K⁺–2Cl⁻ cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle. As sodium remains in the tubule, water follows by osmosis and is excreted in the urine, producing a powerful diuretic effect. This helps remove excess fluid from the body and is used to treat edema due to heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease, and hypertension. Common adverse effects include dehydration, low blood pressure, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, and, at high doses, ototoxicity. #mbbs #doctor #pharmacology #fyp #drugsinfo
